Geopolitical Instability Reshaping Workplaces Across India: A new survey reveals that geopolitical conflicts, particularly in the Middle East, are taking a toll on Indian workplaces. From hiring freezes to rising employee anxiety, the impact is being felt across industries.

Majority of Firms Cutting Back on Hiring

According to staffing firm Genius Consultants, 63% of survey participants confirmed that their companies are either freezing new hires or actively downsizing teams. Another 15% noted a growing shift toward short-term, freelance, or contract roles as uncertainty grows.

Survey Details and Scope

The survey gathered insights from 2,006 professionals working in various sectors. It was conducted online between May 12 and June 6.

Raises, Bonuses, and Promotions Take a Hit

About 36% of employees reported that salary hikes, bonuses, or promotions have been delayed or reduced. Financial uncertainty appears to be directly linked to global instability.

Workloads Increasing, Morale Declining

The survey also found rising pressure on employees. Around 21% reported heavier workloads and tighter deadlines. Another 22% said that international business opportunities and travel plans are being disrupted. Team morale is also slipping, with 21% observing a dip in job confidence and motivation.

Employees Are Worried—And Taking Action

Employee concern is growing. Around 30% of respondents said they are extremely worried and have already seen warning signs. Meanwhile, 26% are staying alert and tracking developments closely.

In response, many are taking steps to secure their futures:

  • 55% are upskilling or enrolling in certification programs
  • 31% are actively looking for new roles or backup options

Expert Take: A Workplace in Transition

Commenting on the findings, Genius Consultants Chairman R P Yadav noted that the external global climate is rapidly reshaping internal work environments. He emphasized the need for employers to stay transparent and flexible, while encouraging employees to remain agile and future-ready.

As global instability continues, both employers and employees must adapt quickly. Proactive steps like upskilling and role diversification can help navigate this shifting landscape. The message is clear: the nature of work is evolving, and staying prepared is no longer optional—it’s essential.
