The Bengaluru–Mangaluru Vande Bharat Express is almost ready to start operations. Electrification work has covered 22 kilometres, with 33 kilometres still underway.
This fully electrified route will connect Bengaluru, Tumakuru, Hassan, and Mangaluru districts, cutting travel time and improving comfort.
Tackling the Challenging Hassan–Mangaluru Section
The Hassan–Mangaluru stretch is complex, featuring 57 tunnels and 700 bridges. Officials are working hard to overcome these technical hurdles.
To meet future demand, a ₹50,000 crore Detailed Project Report (DPR) is underway to double the Hassan–Mangaluru rail line.
Expanding Connected Rail Routes
In addition to the main route, the 68-kilometre Kadur–Chikkamagaluru–Belur line is nearing completion. Land acquisition for the Belur–Hassan section must finish by July 20.
These lines will feed into the Vande Bharat corridor, improving access to smaller towns and boosting regional growth.
Karnataka’s Growing Vande Bharat Network
With ten Vande Bharat routes already running, the Bengaluru–Mangaluru service will become the eleventh. Other routes include Bengaluru–Dharwad, Mangaluru–Madgaon, and Mysuru–Chennai.
This new line showcases Karnataka’s commitment to upgrading its transport system with high-speed rail services.
What This Means for Commuters and Economy
The Vande Bharat Express promises faster, safer, and greener travel. It will reduce road congestion and offer a modern, efficient alternative for daily commuters.
Officials aim to launch the route within this year, connecting Karnataka’s commercial hubs with its coastal areas.
The Bengaluru–Mangaluru Vande Bharat project marks a key step toward modernizing Karnataka’s railways. It supports sustainable growth and better regional connectivity.
As electrification and construction continue, residents can look forward to a smoother, quicker, and more comfortable travel experience soon.
