BSNL to Launch 5G Services in Delhi and Other Metros
State-run BSNL plans to roll out 5G mobile services in Delhi and other selected cities by end-September 2025. Trials are underway at newly upgraded 4G sites covering metro and state capitals.
Early 5G Activations Across Key Cities
BSNL has already activated 5G at 4G towers in cities like Jaipur, Lucknow, Chandigarh, Bhopal, Kolkata, Patna, Hyderabad, and Chennai. These sites are part of the first phase of a 1 lakh 4G tower rollout aimed at ensuring firm infrastructure before adding 5G.
Infrastructure Expansion and Market Share Details
By May 2025, BSNL had installed over 93,000 4G towers, with more than 70,000 operational. The plan includes a second phase to add another 100,000 towers.
BSNL’s recent mobile market share sat at approximately 7.82% a drop from private rivals, due in part to rollout delays.
Rollout Strategy Mirrors 4G Expansion
The 5G rollout follows BSNL’s circle-wise 4G expansion model, which covered all four metro areas by December 2024. Officials said they will proceed city-by-city once earlier 4G towers meet performance benchmarks like quality and reliability .
BSNL’s Quantum 5G FWA Enters Fixed Broadband Market

Plans start at ₹999/month for 100 Mbps, with premium plans at ₹1,499/month for 300 Mbps.
What This Means for Users
- Delhi and other metros can expect to access BSNL’s 5G network by September.
- Existing BSNL customers may need SIM upgrades when the service goes live.
- Those seeking home broadband can try Quantum 5G FWA, especially in pilot cities.
Final Takeaway: BSNL Aims to Catch Up in 5G Race
BSNL’s 5G entry comes later than private players, but the structured rollout could secure more stable service quality.
